Memorable Quotes

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. -- Edward Abbey

Re-evaluating The Plan…

Finally figured out that the physical issues I’ve been seeing the last couple of days were my body’s way of telling me I’ve been pushing it too hard too soon…

After walking on the treadmill 6 nights, doing a boot camp workout 7 nights, and the pushups program 3 nights last week, my poor old out-of-shape corpus decided to make it stop the only way it could – by having head- and body aches, sore throat, and digestive issues.  I spent some time thinking on it before going to sleep last night, and decided to cut back on the plan for a while.

I’m going to put the boot camp and pushups on hold for the next while, and just focus on doing the treadmill each night.  Each of these levels has 24 workouts; after I complete the first  level, I’ll do another check-in with myself, to see if I want to add something new.

I have 19 more workouts in the first series, so that gives me just under three weeks to sort of ‘get the hang’ of this physical activity – actually, it’s going to work out to be a bit more, as I have a business trip next weekend, and need to visit my mom the weekend after that.  Oh, don’t worry – I’ll definitely be getting out for some walks while I’m away!  My business trip is to one of the most beautiful places on Earth – Yosemite National Park – so going out for a walk or short hike will be a joy.  And my mom lives in a rural area of the northern Nevada desert, where there’s plenty of room to go for a stroll with the pup.

So yeah, I have a plan, and I’m still going to stay at it – I’m just going to go a bit slower than I initially thought I could.  And do you know…  After I made this decision last night, I slept better than I have for several nights, and woke up feeling 100% better!

Hey, There, 2011; Here’s My Plan For You!

So, yeah, I’m getting this out a day late, but I believe that no one should seriously state their resolutions on January 1st, when the head is likely to be a bit pulverized after the excesses of December 31st.

I’ve been giving some thought to the changes I’d like to make over the next year…

1)  Start a healthier lifestyle that allows me to lose at least 45 pounds by the end of 2011.

2)  Get caught up and stay caught up on my geocache logging.

3)  Reduce my debt.

4)  Keep up with my email.

I know that my chances of success are increased by having a detailed plan for reaching my goals.  Right now, there are some rather vague ideas swirling around in my head that I am going to start putting down on (virtual) paper, flesh out, and post here as I build them.

I also know that I need to build some flexibility into my plans, so I am sure that each one will evolve and change along the way, as I learn what works, and what doesn’t.

I wholly intend to make this my most successful year ever!
